The preservation and restoration section gained an international experience in science for conservation issues such as environmental monitoring, chemical and physical characterization of materials and treatment used in restoration of paintings and monuments. At the same time scientific investigation of artworks, through analyses of authentication, determination of the state of conservation and the compatibilities between new materials and ancient traditional techniques are also performed. The Faculty provides graduate specialization for painting and graphic art restorers (4 years), and post-graduate specialization in the field of conservation of the cultural ecclesiastic heritage.
A national priority project, proposed by the Ministry of Culture for 2004-2006, which deals with synthesis and characterization of synergic biocide systems, anti-fire and hydrophobic materials compatible with the different structural elements of ancient wood is actually carried out.
